Today’s Pink Full Super Moon rises over Miami at 7:32 pm EDT and is in exact fullness at 11:32 pm EDT.
Join me for the first of only two supermoons of 2021, rises in a tonight April 26th at 7:32 pm EDT.
Supermoons are full moons that appear bigger in the sky than usual. This because it coincides with the moon’s arrival at perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbit.
“This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.”
A second notable treat this evening is the emergence of Venus as Evening Star, in the night sky on the western horizon after sunset. An interesting fact that Venus’ emergence as an evening star was Hesperes, ancient Romanized as Hesperus’ Roman equivalent is Vesper “evening”, “supper”, “evening star”, “west”.
